휫셔뮤직을 통해 출시된 ‘You make me brave’는 벧엘처치의 여성 컨퍼런스 ‘Lovely Women's Conference’를 라이브로 담았다. 여성 컨퍼런스인 만큼 모든 워십리더가 어마어마하다. 벧엘처치의 키 워십리더 Jenn Johnson을 필두로, 어쿠스틱 앨범 Loft Session에서 자유로운 예배자로서 큰 감동을 주었던 Steffany Frizzell Gretzinger, 국내에도 Safe Place 앨범으로 잘 알려진 지저스컬처 솔리스트 Kristene DiMarco, 벧엘처치의 오랜 멤버 Leah Valenzuela 등, 벧엘뮤직의 메인 워십리더들 뿐만 아니라 요즘 그 누구보다 활발한 활동을 보이고 있는 Kari Jobe, 그리고 빈야드 출신으로 캐나다에서 사역하고 있는 싱어송라이터 Amanda Cook까지 만날 수 있기 때문이다.

You make me brave는 시대가 바뀌면서 예배 사역의 흐름이 많이 변했다는 것을 자각하게 해주는 음반이 아닐까 생각해본다. 이전의 워십 음반에서 여성 리더의 역할은 대부분 뜨거운 예배 열기를 부드럽고 잔잔하게 연결해 임재로 초청하는 길목과도 같아 보였는데, 이 음반에서의 여성들은 그 역할에 만족하지 못했다. 첫 곡 You make me brave는 더 이상 “두려움을 없애 주세요, 피난처 뒤에 안전히 숨겠어요”를 고백하는 가녀린 소녀의 목소리가 아니다. “나는 당신의 사랑에 의지해 파도를 탈 것입니다. 당신은 내게 용기를 갖게 하십니다”라는 아만다 쿡의 진지하면서도 강력한 고백은, 여성 뿐 아니라 위축되어 있는 모든 크리스천들에게 영적인 패기를 전할 귀한 노래다.
